Wisdom

Wisdom is the Principal Thing!

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”  (Proverbs 4:7  KJV).

Notice that the Bible does not just say, “Wisdom is important.”  Why? There are numerous things in life we consider important: money, house, car, groceries, relationships,  playing golf, or meeting with our friends. Instead, it says, “Wisdom is the principal thing.”  The NIV says it this way: “Wisdom is supreme….”  Which would mean that wisdom is in a class all by itself.  It is unparalleled or unrivaled.

So why do we need wisdom?

Wisdom is a preserver (Proverbs 4:6).

Wisdom is a promoter (Proverbs 4:8)

Wisdom is a giver of honor (Proverbs 4:9)

Kings reign by wisdom (Proverbs 8:15)

Wisdom is your covenant benefit as a believer. And when we lack wisdom we are called upon by scripture to ask for it (James 1:5).  God is ever ready to give us the wisdom required in our circumstances if we ask Him in faith. He will give us illumination that goes beyond mere information.
